House for an Artist

Ste-Anne-des-Lacs, Québec

The owner of this property wanted something different than the traditional lakeside cottage.
The wish list included typical items: plenty of windows for views and natural light, tall ceilings, a lakeside deck with attached screened porch, and open informal living spaces.

However, the owner also requested some curves and a less conventional look. Our design features all of the above, as well excellent energy efficiency and passive solar gain, a private upper floor for the owner, and space for grown children and their families to spread out on the “garden” level. Whimsical elements include a sinuous window wall facing the lake view, and a split level between the living and dining areas. Coloured columns, designed by the owner, delineate these otherwise open spaces.
