Bottled Water

Montréal, Québec

Labrador Laurentienne is the Quebec market leader for the distribution of bottled water to homes and offices. Grenier + Richards Architecture designed 14,000 square feet of offices to house the company’s new corporate headquarters and a 54,000 sq. ft. distribution warehouse. The site is on the north service road of highway 40 in Anjou, Quebec. Easy access to a major traffic artery was essential for distribution of the product. The site plan and building orientation were conceived to allow the trucks the maximum safety when exiting and re-entering this busy roadway. Nearly a third of the warehouse is given over to a drive-through area for trucks. This 60-foot wide, column-free space, allows a night shift of workers to load the trucks with bottled water, even in mid-winter. The trucks are then ready to leave the facility early the next morning. In its former location the company had no heated parking area. The trucks had to be unloaded in the evening and then restocked in the morning whenever there was a risk of freezing temperatures overnight. The new heated drive-through parking area represents a major time saving in the distribution cycle. The two-story office component houses administration, customer services, sales department, showroom, conference rooms, and a staff cafeteria with an outdoor patio. The reception area is filled with natural light from the double height windows that indicate the building’s main entrance.
