Ultimate Screened Porch

The Laurentians, Québec

The owners of this spacious lakefront house (designed by Todd Richards in 1990) approached GRA to design the ”ultimate screened porch” as a final complement to their home. Sitting like a tree house among the leaves, it shines like a beacon welcoming night time visitors approaching from the lake.

Designed as an outdoor living room, it opens onto an existing dining room via double french doors. The finishes, including Ipé flooring, whitewashed panelling, as well as BC fir post and beam framing, were chosen to enhance the visual flow between house and porch.

A large fireplace, with guillotine style glass enclosure, takes the chill off of cool evenings while removable glass panels can be added on the west side to fend off winds in the spring and fall. The comfortable seating, sound system and discreet lighting encourage conversations late into the night.
